What should MLA’s investment priorities be for the feedbase over the next ten years, in southern Australia?

MLA have commissioned a project to look at its feedbase investment strategy (the feedbase includes introduced and native pastures, fodder crops, dual purpose crops herbs and fodder shrubs) for the next 10 years. As well as detailed discussions with all sectors of the industry, the opinions of a wide range of people associated with red meat production are being sought.

Evergraze Field Day – Orange

On behalf of the Orange EverGraze team, you are invited to attend the up coming field day on Wednesday October 27th 2010 at the EverGraze Proof site at Panuara, near Orange.

This day will focus on the results thus far in conducting a grazing systems experiment on the Central Tableland’s native pastures.

Guest speaker, Jim Virgona will talk about his research on how best to integrate native and introduced pastures.

2010 Conference Proceedings

The 2010 Conference Proceedings are now online and available to all members.

Simply browse the publications page or go straight to the Contents here.

While all members receive a hard copy of the Conference Proceedings, it can be handy to have them in electronic format for easy searching and archival.

We are in the process of uploading Contents of all 25 Conferences – this will take a little time so bear with us as we work through the years. Thank you to Carmen Elvins for typing these up for us – a big job! For now, only the Table of Contents will be published online but copies of papers may be sourced by contacting the Secretary.

Grassland Society of NSW Celebrates 25 years

At the recent Grassland Society of NSW Annual Conference at Dubbo (July 28-29), the Society celebrated 25 years as an organisation. Malcolm Campbell, the Grassland Society Secretary for 17 years (1985-2002) and Life Member entertained the conference delegates at the dinner with an address on the history of the society over the past 25 years. A copy of Malcolm’s address will be printed in the next edition of the newsletter. More conference highlights will be posted soon

This excellent publication is a joint venture between I&I NSW and the Grassland Society of NSW. It provides information on species and varieties/brands of pasture grasses, legumes and some herbs used in pastures. Varieties/brand names are listed together with suppliers and other relevant detail such as plant characteristics, sowing rates, suitable soil types etc. that may assist producers in selecting suitable pasture varieties.
