The 2010 Conference Proceedings are now online and available to all members.
Simply browse the publications page or go straight to the Contents here.
While all members receive a hard copy of the Conference Proceedings, it can be handy to have them in electronic format for easy searching and archival.
We are in the process of uploading Contents of all 25 Conferences – this will take a little time so bear with us as we work through the years. Thank you to Carmen Elvins for typing these up for us – a big job! For now, only the Table of Contents will be published online but copies of papers may be sourced by contacting the Secretary.
Lots of great information available – just one of the benefits of Grassland Society membership.
At the recent Grassland Society of NSW Annual Conference at Dubbo (July 28-29), the Society celebrated 25 years as an organisation. Malcolm Campbell, the Grassland Society Secretary for 17 years (1985-2002) and Life Member entertained the conference delegates at the dinner with an address on the history of the society over the past 25 years. A copy of Malcolm’s address will be printed in the next edition of the newsletter. More conference highlights will be posted soon

15th Australian Agronomy Conference
“Food Security from Sustainable Agriculture”
The conference focuses on the role of agronomy in the efficient and reliable supply of food and fibre to Australian, New Zealand and international customers in a changing and variable climate and with increasingly limited resources.
The conference is a great opportunity to present your latest ideas and findings at the leading scientific meeting for Australian agronomists, to mix with New Zealand’s best agronomists, soil scientists and farmers and see the magnificent and productive New Zealand landscape in spring.

This is the first and final call for poster papers for the 25th Annual Conference of the Grassland Society of NSW.
The theme of the Conference is ‘Adapting Mixed Farms to Future Environments. Contributions to the conference take two forms, ‘invited theme papers’ and ‘contributed poster-papers’.
Contributing a poster-paper represents a commitment to submit a short paper for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings plus displaying an accompanying poster. For the poster, the only mandatory guideline is for size – approximately 110 cm length x 80 cm width.
As considerable lead time is required for editing, proof reading and printing, the deadline of 7 May, 2010 is the final deadline for acceptance of poster-papers.

The 2010 conference is to be held in Dubbo in July. This is a very special conference for the NSW Grassland Society as it is our 25th Anniversary. Locating the conference in Dubbo this year has allowed the organisers to focus on mixed farm enterprises that characterise central western New South Wales. Dubbo is also conveniently located in the centre of the State and has the benefit of more than 70 accommodation venues.
The theme of the conference is “Adapting mixed farms to future environments”. This theme was chosen because farmers are concerned over the impacts of climate change on pasture and livestock productivity, the influence of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme on farms, the management of prolonged drought and extreme climatic events as well as legislative environmental and animal welfare requirements. These are some of the issues to be discussed at the Dubbo conference.
The conference is to be held over two days, 28 and 29th July at the Dubbo RSL Club.
The first day is largely concerned with showcasing the practical experiences of key landholders in central western NSW. Three field tours are being organised giving information on prime lamb marketing, the incorporation of dual purpose crops and forage shrubs in pasture systems, the role of animal behaviour in livestock management and pasture utilisation. In addition, a visit to the Trangie Agricultural Research Centre is planned where latest research on the genetic variation in methane emission in cattle and results from the Sheep Information Nucleus Flock will be showcased.
The second day of the conference will have a more technical focus and while following the conference theme will specifically concentrate on animals, plants and natural resource management. Among other topics, presenters on this day will discuss precision sheep production, increasing productivity and persistence of native pastures, impact of extreme drought on pastures, new sub-tropical pasture species and how carbon may be valued in pasture systems.
IMPORTANT: Expressions of interest for contributing papers to this conference will be called for in mid March with papers due in 23 April 2010. For further information on written contributions please contact cathy.waters@industry.nsw.gov.au
